How Iraq Gets Around UN Sanctions

A rather blistering expose from the Middle East Media Research Institute.

It seems that on 'oil for food' the suppliers are reimbursed from the UN fund after the transactions are completed ... but THE IRAQIS NEGOTIATE THE DEALS with the suppliers. So, of course, if you're doing business with Hussein you have to pad the bill and give the extra money to him.

Or you can import things which you don't need and then export them again for cash.

Or you can smuggle oil through trustworthy Syria.

Or you can give journalists special 'coupons' for oil which they can sell to foreign oil companies.

No wonder people say 'UN sanctions aren't working.'
