Belgium Says Gen. Tommy Franks Should Be Tried For War Crimes Over Iraq

That's right ... not anyone in China, not Castro, not the lunatic in North Korea ... the US General who led the invasion of Iraq.

Further spiralling into self-parody, the Belgians, who have appeared in this blog far too many times, now say they are representing 19 Iraqis who don't like that the US used actual bombs to convince the bad guys running Iraq that their time was over.

Not all Belgians think this is such a good idea ... especially given that Belgium has been marginalized on the world scene after becoming part of the Axis of Weasels with France and Germany. Belgium's Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt, speaking a day before the country's federal election, Verhofstadt called the lawsuit an abuse of a controversial law that allows Belgian courts to try foreigners for war crimes and other human rights violations.

"The law leaves open the possibility of sending back the complaint to the United States and that is what I...aim to do," he said in an interview with local VTM television. "Next week, I will call for a cabinet meeting and...undo this abuse."

Sending the lawsuit to the United States would be seen helping ease tensions between Brussels and Washington after Belgium opposed the war in Iraq and obstructed NATO efforts to boost Turkish defenses ahead of the war.
