White House criticizes Israeli raid



The White House took aim Tuesday at Israel's bombing of a Gaza City neighborhood, saying the action, in which at least 15 people -- including the military head of the radical Hamas group -- were killed, was "heavy-handed" and did not contribute to peace.

"The president's concern here is that there is a loss of innocent lives," White House spokesman Ari Fleischer said. "The president has been, and will continue to be, the first to defend Israel -- in this case, the president sees it differently.
